I have treated a couple of stutters over the years. All with really good results.
One little boy (6) who was diagnosed by a Speech Therapist, in the mid 90's from Cape Town, South Africa. His diagnoses, Stuttering, is a form of disfluency that is characterized by a high frequency of sound repetition, sound prolongation, and visible struggle behavior. He was a cute red head, who battled to make and keep friends and who was visibly embarrassed by his stutter. He had been in speech therapy for 3 years and nothing really helped. His school principal (who now happens to be an AIT practitioner) referred him to me.
After the first five days, his stutter developed
into a "hesitation"
I also treated a adult man while living in Israel. Although he was raised in Israel he was living in France at the time. His parents were my neighbors and suggested he do the training on his next visit home. His speech "deficit" had really restricted him from doing many things in life, one dating or having a partner since he felt that no women would have the patience trying to understand what he was trying to say. We did not see any improvement during the 10 days of AIT and it was very disappointing to him, although I did explain over and over that he could see improvements over the following six months. I was in constant contact with his parents and they said that they did notice a slight change in his speech when he called to speak to them. After about five months on a family visit, I reassessed him and his results on his listening profile had improved drastically. I too noticed that he stutter had improved slightly although he was not convinced. His parents kept reporting that they were noticing more and more improvement with every telephone call that was made. About 14 months after we completed AIT, I received in the post an invitation to his wedding and a big Thank You card. His stutter almost disappeared. He became more confident and was not afraid to speak in public anymore. His wedding was held in a Wadi in Eilat and he gave the most amazing speech to about 600 guests. |
