Head Injury in an Adult and Auditory Integration Training (Berard AIT)

by the Sister of the woman injured, Bay Area, California. 11-01-2004.

Auditory Integration Training, AIT, Berard AIT, head injury"She can sit in a crowed room at a party and guess what, she never runs out of the room crying, because it was about pain, not attention."

"When my 34-year-old sister suffered from a head injury,  I would get really sad and sometimes angry when other professionals trying to help assumed her behaviors after the accident were a sort of 'behavioral' thing.  She was an adult with an advanced degree!

But she would run out of rooms such as a party or Thanksgiving dinner in tears and in pain when the sounds were a certain way, but it was inconsistent and difficult to predict what would hurt and what would not.

I guarantee you my sister was not doing this for attention and had she been unable to explain, and thus being treated by some patronizing or well-meaning professionals as if she were doing it for attention was devastating. I can't imagine how it would have compounded the emotional pain for her, or how bitter it might have made her.

What ended up helping her was Berard AIT and also Neurofeedback. Now she can sit in a crowed room at a party and guess what, she never runs out of the room crying, because it was about pain, not attention."
